Nice to meet you

August 30, 2012

Meet Kitty and Bear, two friends I crocheted for no particular reason.  They are about ten centimetres tall and have been having lots of fun together since they were made a couple of weeks back.  Their pattern is from an awesome book I found at my library called Super cute crochet.  It has patterns for all sorts of sweet animals including a pig, lion, bunny, reindeer, chook, cow and elephant.

The pattern was very easy to follow although a little confusing to me as a beginner in the world of crochet until I realised it was written with British terminology when I was used to American and didn't realise their were two sets of terms! I prefer the American terms as they make more sense to me.  These two friends are essentially the same pattern, differing only in their ear shape.

I've got my eye on the elephant pattern in the book and perhaps a reindeer when the festive season kicks in!

Crochet

Show and tell

August 23, 2012

One of my best friends left to go back to her home in Fremantle on the weekend after a month's stay here in Melbourne with Family.  We met through first mother's group four years ago and have been a great support for each other through raising our girls and life in general.  Karen was describing her poky kitchen to me and was saying she that when she got back she wanted to brighten it up with some little plants and a fresh coat of paint.  Since I have gotten on the crochet band wagon I started crocheting these gorgeous hearts and decided to make a set of green ones to brighten up Karen's kitchen.  They are varying sizes and shades of green.

Karen loved them.

Karen's daughter Alia, Isabella's best friend from babyhood, turned four on the weekend and I made her a new dress and apron for her Poppy doll I made her a couple of years ago.  The dress is modelled here on Issie's doll.

I also made her a crocheted heart to hang on her bedroom door.

And we made her these Hello Kitty cupcakes for her party.

Orange and poppyseed with cream cheese icing.  The eyes and whiskers are licorice and the bow, nose and ears are made from royal icing.  Isabella had loads of fun making the little bits with me and she and Juliette both loved licking the beaters and tidying up the bowl!

I'll be checking out Our Creative Spaces today.

Another crocheted hat

August 09, 2012

Cuteness...Juliette in her new crocheted hat I made her.  This is my second crocheted hat and I am happy to now say confidently that I know how to crochet!
Juliette was looking very sweet in her piggys and tutu the other day so I asked her if I could take some photos of her in her new hat.  She promptly walked across the yard and stood against the fence and gave me her best smiles!!

She even turned and gave me her little over the shoulder looks without being asked - so funny!
I found the pattern for free on Ravelry.  You can find it and yarn details here.  It's a combination of single crochet, double crochet and chain stitch.  I love the scallops.

Linking up here today.  Whenever I am in need of inspiration I check out blogs and Pinterest - love it!

Baby

Quick little jacket

August 02, 2012

I whipped up this little polar fleece jacket for Emily yesterday.  I made a similar one for Isabella when she was a baby and she wore it lots.   I didn't use a pattern so it sort of 'evolved' as I was making it.  Luckily Emily was playing the game and let me try it on her a few times as the pieces were coming together so I could trim and measure as I went.
When I say 'whipped up', I mean I didn't neaten the seams.  Since it's polar fleece there will be no fraying.  I left the cuffs long so Emily can grow into it a little.  The edging is a sweet printed interlock I had in my fabric stash.  I used it to cover the buttons too.
With a low of 4 degrees predicted tonight, I think Emily will be getting some wear out of this jacket when we are out and about.

I'm linking up here today.
