Debbie's birthday dress...pattern progress
July 05, 2013
For those of you who have been following my blog over the past six weeks will know that I have been working on my first digital (for purchase) sewing pattern. It is called Debbie's birthday dress - inspired by my favourite children's book - Debbie's birthday party. You can read more about the dress here and here. The hemline in the pic above has been lengthened in the revised pattern.
I am so excited about my pattern and have made about five "Debbie's" so far...part of drafting a pattern includes making and remaking to get it just right. The photo above and my new banner (like?) shows Isabella and Juliette wearing both views. I am hoping the pattern will be ready for purchase in about two weeks. It has been such a thrill to see some sneak peaks from some of my lovely pattern testers. I have also organised a "Debbie's birthday dress" blog tour which will be happening in a month's time and will include ten fabulous bloggers who will show you their lovely creations using my pattern.
I began my hand drawing my pattern in seven sizes then after researching digital pattern drafting on the internet, I decided to purchase Melissa Mora's e-course which takes you step by step through how to draft digital patterns. Fortunately I have the Illustrator program (which I got for free...but that's another story). The process has not been as difficult as I anticipated, although it is time consuming. I decided not to put any extra pressure on myself by setting a tight schedule to get it finished, so it has been a completely non-stressful venture so far.
Fingers crossed, people like my pattern and it sells heaps of copies so I can buy more fabric and further fuel my sewing obsession!!! But more than that, it will be so satisfying to see my design and hard work pay off and to see sewers from around the world in Debbie's birthday dress!
Exciting!!

Lovely dress. Will keep an eye out for the pattern. My girl would look cute in one of these and I've just started making clothes, so a pattern would be perfect.
