Blog tour: The Bimaa Sweater (and a PATTERN GIVEAWAY)
October 15, 2013
I am happy today to show you my two Bimaa sweaters made with the great pattern by Sarah of LouBeeClothing and EmmyLouBeeDoo blog. Sarah has released three patterns, the Hosh pants and Doli tank have also been very popular among sewing bloggers.
Sarah actually released this Bimaa sweater pattern many months ago, but since she has recently added the hoodie variation, she then decided to arrange this blog tour. So the Bimaa now has three views - hoodie and cowl (which I have sewn) and a shorter shawl collar.
When Sarah emailed me asking if I would like to take part in her tour, I, like all the other bloggers, signed up right away. A super cute pattern that I could make up for all my girls which they would be comfy in for every day wear and that I could sew up quickly. I sewed both of these up in less than an hour each. I used my overlocker (serger) exclusively for these tops. Awesome!! So quick and no skipped stitches (but less room for error!!)
The hoodie view is so cute! A great fitting hood that Sarah worked very hard on perfecting! The whole hood is lined. I used a pink marle fine ribbed stretch fabric and a soft cream stretch lining for the hood lining. Sarah suggests specifically to use fabric with stretch that goes both ways. This is because the pattern is a snug fit and to make it easy to get on and off, your fabric needs to be stretchy.
Sorry there are no photos with hood off...Juliette wanted to keep it on!
The cowl view is also gorgeous. I found this two way stretch fabric at my local op shop! What a score. This Bimaa cost me about $1.50!! Sarah made a gorgeous version where the cowl is sewn up in a different knit so that it looks like a scarf layered over the top. Fun! A couple of bloggers on this tour have also adapted the pattern into an A-line dress which look great too.
I have seen a few sewers comment that they would like this pattern in adult size. My thoughts exactly! In fact, I upsized the Bimaa (well not technically, but took inspiration from...) to make my own red and white big Bimaa for Selfish Sewing Week a couple of weeks. back.
The pattern comes in sizes 12 months - 6 years and the hoodie and cowl view are both also suitable for boys. If your child is halfway between two sizes and is of average size for age, I would recommend choosing the larger size as it is a snug fit. I love this pattern and hope to get another one made up for KCW next week...perhaps with ears!!
Sarah has generously offered one of my readers a chance to win a copy of her fab pattern. To enter, just leave a comment to let me know which Bimaa you would sew up first if you were to win and whether you are confident sewing with knits. This offer is open to all facebook followers of EmmyLouBeeDoo and sewpony: simply click on these highlighted links (if you are not already a fan) and click 'like'.
Offer closes on Friday 18th October at 8pm Melbourne time. I will announce the winner shortly after and Sarah will email you with a copy!!
You can buy Sarah's pattern HERE.
Thank you Sarah for your lovely pattern...I will be making more Bimaa's in my sewing future!!

I have been watching Bimaa tops popping all over the blogsphere :) They seem very comfy. I am not very confident with knits, I sew knits on my machine first and then use overlocker if needed. I would like to practice sewing with knits more. I guess I will try my luck again ;) I really like the hooded version :) I think LM will enjoy it :)
ReplyDeleteMy son wants to be a ninja for halloween, and I think a hooded bima would be a perfect start for that costume!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love your two bimas....they look great :)
It's lovely Suz!
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks so comfy on your girls - love your photos styling. It's so you :)
Ooo... I have a thing for cowls and hoodies... so I'm not sure which one - they both look so gorgeous... mmm... me thinks my girl wouldn't be able to go past a pink hoodie though!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
I love that cowl neck! I want that for myself. My toddler is obsessed with hoods right now though so realistically I'll sew that one first (then study the pattern in great detail and draft up the cowl for me!). Knits were my goal of the year - I'm gaining confidence with each project.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the cowl neck! I'm pretty confident sewing knits, as they were one if my very first sewing projects. I didn't know enough to be afraid then:)
ReplyDeleteI have a 5yo who loves hoodies so I would definately sew that. I'm pretty happy sewing knits though I find I have to use both my sewing machine stretch stitch and my overlocker. I found when I only used the overlocker that the seams developed holes - then I read that the overlocker should have a ballpoint needle, but that was a step too far in being organised for me!
ReplyDeleteI would do the cowl neck first, but they are both great so would make a bunch. I am just starting to get into knit, I have so far made one thing that is knit. It was a challenge, but so worth it. This shirt has been in my etsy cart since I first started seeing it pop up, sitting and waiting for payday.
ReplyDeleteSo cute, Suz!! I really want to make a hooded version, and I love that she wanted to keep the hood up :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the hoodied version!!!
ReplyDeleteHoodie! Don't think my three-year-old would ever take it off either (And I'm wondering if I could adapt it for my 7-year-old boy too?!)
ReplyDeleteLove both of them.
ReplyDeleteI would make the one with the big cowl first. Looks very comfy.
I actually love sewing with knits because it fits their little bodies so much better. I want to make a cowl for my girl and a hoody for my boy!

I love the cowl version. I'm thinking on buying the pattern, but it would be great if i win it. I never sewn anything with knits but everyone says it's very easy and i really want to give it a try. It would be wonderful if the pattern came in more sizes. My oldest daughter would love it but she wears a size 10T.

I love the cowl, but my toddler recently decided she likes hoods. I have been using knits lately and loving them, esp since my friend lent me her serger :) Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteLove them both!! -erin
ReplyDeleteThese two looks you made are so stylish... Love them, Suz!
ReplyDeleteThis pattern would be a great excuse for me to start sewing with knits. It would be great to win it!
