Top Knot dress

June 29, 2016

Today I am joining in on the Top Knot tour! The Top Knot romper/dress is the latest pattern by new designer, Gabriela of Chalk & Notch.  I didn't know Gabriela  but when she asked me to join in, I had a look at her pattern and was really impressed by how professional it looked, so I signed up.  When I received the files, I couldn't believe this pattern was the work of a new designer. It is the most professional and cleanly finished pattern tutorial I have seen from an Indie pattern designer. Well done Gabriela!! Such a fabulous first pattern!

Obviously I chose the top knot knee length dress. This version features a loose fitting button up bodice with cool sleeve cuffs, shoulder seam pleats, an elasticised waist and circular skirt.  Other options offered by the Top Knot pattern are short legged or long legged romper, tunic length dress or maxi length skirt length. I am not a fan of maxi length dresses on girls so I chose the knee length. I love the look of the short romper too, but we are in winter here so it is not the right time of year for it. I could have added pockets (included in the pattern), but didn't. Emily is wondering what happened to them...

I chose a Robert Kaufman print called Geometric in navy (London calling lawn  6) that I purchased here. I ordered it a couple of months ago and then went on a search for a fabric (print) that would complement and contrast this print. I found a striped knit at Spotlight and thought it worked well. I added navy buttons with orange stitching.

Gabriela has organised a great giveaway. Some generous sponsors are offering some great prizes... you can enter the giveaway below.

  2. This is Gabriela's second pattern (The Fishtail Kimono is the first) but that does not change the fact that her patterns are both incredible ;-) And so is your version. Beautiful fabric pairing! And your youngest is getting so big...she has always been beautiful!
