A retro ishi dress

July 02, 2015

Today I finished a retro style ishi dress for Emily that I started a few weeks ago.  If you haven't heard of the ishi dress, it is the latest pattern by the very talented pattern maker, sewer and blogger, An from StraightGrain. There are have been many lovely ishi dresses in blogland over the past few weeks as An has hosted a big blog tour for her pattern launch.

The ishi dress pattern is very well put together with beautiful digital drawings and detailed instructions for each step.  It is an A-line dress that features princess seams, big pockets and short or long sleeves. I chose a size three for Emily and sewed a larger hem (as she is a shortie!). The fit is good - some room to grow.  I won't lie, the princess seams on this dress are tricky. They require all your concentration and patience navigating the curve at the top of the seam! But the result is lovely:)

These fabrics are all from Spotlight - a retro inspired floral print, mustard brushed cotton for the side panels and a coral pink cotton for the pockets.  I had fun choosing these fabrics and making a very seventies style dress.

I closed the dress with buttons at the back (there is also the option of an invisible zip).

We're going outside now....

Did you know that An has also organised a contest to showcase her new pattern? You can win some cool prizes and can read about it here. Voting starts today.  You can go to the voting page and vote your favourite dress.

I am getting this post up with five minutes to spare!! A great pattern - well done An:))

  4. That last photo is adorable, and those rosy winter cheeks!
This dress totally reminds of the kitchen curtains when I was a kid, but in a nice nostalgic way, mind you! Just need leggings that look like cork tiles to go with it! :)
