The Sixth Day of Christmas: Compagnie M

December 06, 2013

On the sixth day of Christmas, Marte from Compagnie M is guest posting for our The 12 Days of Christmas series.  I have become good blogging friends with Marte, although she puts me to shame in the pattern drafting stakes...she as just published her third commercial pattern in as many months (or less!).  She is a real pro.  Her first commercial pattern, The Mara blouse is just beautiful.  She has since released the fun swing skirt (and revamped her Stella skirt pattern) and over this past week, her Louisa dress has come out.  You can see all Marte's patterns HERE. Phew! This Mum is busy.  She sews for her gorgeous identical twin girls - Nore and Lisa, and lives in Belgium.  She has been blogging for less than a year and her blog and following are growing super fast!! Go Marte!   I am very excited to be part of her and Marta's series, Mailbox surprise which has packages of fabric flying all around the world!!  I can't wait to receive mine and find out who my sender is!!

First of all I want to thank Suz and Laura for asking me to participate in this Christmas series! I've seen some stunning creations so far, but I have chosen to keep my outfit relatively simple. I don't like to much bling bling. So I just added a little bit! More then I ever though I would. That's what I like about series. It just pushes you to do things, you would probably never do otherwise!

For Nore's skirt I was inspired by the one below. I didn't use a pattern but just started to make pleats from a rectangular piece of fabric. A lot of pleats! The stars helped me to make them all perfectly parallel. The fabric width was 110cm but I only ended up with 28cm at the end. Just enough for my small girl. I was really relieved because I had been folding for 1 hour for the first side....

I closed the side seam with a wide stitch and some golden thread. Afterwards I added a double waistband with two elastics. Just like the skirt I knocked off. To keep the pleats in place, I added two golden stitching lines.

The fabric of this skirt was sponsored by a new belgian online shop: Milà & Moi.
I think it's just perfect for this skirt: I love the gingerbread color for a Christmas
series!

I don't know how Nore was able to make this move, but I just love the shape of the skirt in this picture!

She can seem so mature in pictures, our little (almost 3yo) girl. She's really becoming a professional model. She does everything I ask her! Thanks little princess.

For her tee, I just added some pearls to a white tee I bought. It's very fast & easy way to pimp a t-shirt like this. I just added some interfacing (stretch) at the back before adding the pearls and afterwards as well. To keep the threads in place.

Diva style!

Borrowed this golden shoes from 'De Voetjes'! 10 sizes too big!

And next week I'll show you Lisa's outfit on my own blog! I just have too much to tell. And such funny picture I still want to show to you....

Thanks for having me Suz & Laura! Happy Christmas!

This is gorgeous Marte!!  I'm glad you stepped out of your comfort zone a little and incorporated some bling!!  The skirt is just divine (and the oversized shoes are perfect).  I can't wait to see Lisa's outfit next week too!! They are so sweet and such good little girls doing what Mummy asks!  Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me,
Six geese a laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
