A couple of months ago, I was kindly given a copy of the latest Japanese sewing book by Tuttle Publishing - Sewing for your girls, by Yoshiko Tsukiori.
I whipped up this little shirt for Juliette the other night after the kids had gone to bed. It's my first garment made on my new sewing table - which I am loving!! It is so cool having everything in arm's reach, including my overlocker. I can do everything (except ironing) without leaving my seat. Thanks Dad!!
This pattern is from Happy Homemade Vol. 2 - Ribbon Tie Blouse. The pattern sizing is in even numbers so I traced between size 2 and 4 for Juliette (who will be 3 in early May). I prefer the tie left undone as it sits a little stiff in this weight cotton.

The fabric is one of the pieces I bought on my most recent trip to Patchwork on Central Park. It's called Deco Dots by Amy Butler's Gypsy Caravan collection.
Happy Homemade Vol. 2 is a Japanese pattern book - but luckily being a more recent publication than the earlier Japanese pattrn books, it is translated into English. I have used this book a few times now. I made this dress and this one for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge last year.
I took about twenty photographs of Juliette - this was the best one. I need to think up some good (not bad for your teeth) bribes for photos these days...
I will be drawing my little dollhouse giveaway tomorrow night if you would like to enter.
Linking up for the first time here today.
I am super happy with my day four efforts. This dress turned out really well and was fun to make.
In true Melbourne form, the weather today was typically unspring like and very windy. This was the only shot I got of the dress sitting still. Too cold to photograph my delicate model outdoors, we opted for the loungeroom...
Project details:
Pattern - Happy Homemade Vol. 2, View R, Size 4.
Fabric - Brushed cotton blue stripe.
Cost - $14 per metre - only used just over a metre. Buttons are vintage from my stash.
Time taken - Exactly one hour of sewing time. Having finished the green spotty dress yesterday, this one was a lot quicker as the patterns are similar.
I used size 2 although I think it is quite a large size 2. Juliette is almost 2 and half. I also took about 10 cm off the hemline and the dress is still quite long. It might still fit her next spring which would be a bonus.

Pattern - Happy Homemade Kids Vol. 2 (By Ruriko Yamada), View b, size 2
Fabric - 'Spots and stripes' in bright green with watermelon spot
Cost - Fabric was $10 per metre, I only needed about 80cm although pattern called for 1.25 metres - not sure why! So cost was $8.00. Buttons from stash
Time taken - Approx. 1.5 hours of sewing time
I have to sneak this photo in!!
Linking up here today.
With the days and nights warming up I have realised Isabella has nothing but flanelette pj's which are getting to be a bit warm. So I decided to make her some summer nighties. I loved wearing nighties as a little girl and still remember a couple of them.
This is the first of her nighties. Very feminine and light to wear.
The pattern comes from this gorgeous book I borrowed from my sister...
Gorgeous patterns, but the only problem is, the instructions are all in Japanese!
Luckily, the pattern was fairly straight forward and I was able to piece everything together without instructions (it also helped that my sister had made a few of these dresses and I was able to look at one of hers as a guide).
The white cotton has a light floral pattern on it (also white). Both fabrics are from Spotlight. Total cost was about $5!!
