More about the pattern:

If you are after a jeans pattern, I cannot recommend this pattern enough and cannot imagine the headaches Laura must have had putting this baby together - well done Laura!!!

I used a very soft spotted denim I picked up from my local fabric store with hot pink top stitching thread.  I sewed the 18-24 month size.  Emily is just two and usually measures a few months below standard height.  I started the jeans when Emily was in bed and was too impatient to wait til she woke to measure her for a custom fit.  If I sewed these again for her now, I would sew the size 2 as they are a little 'toight'- mostly around her bottom...encouragement for me to start toilet training her so I can get her out of her nappies to allow a little more room!  So Emily will be getting around her skinnies for the next bit of time til her tummy and bottom are busting out!

Shino writes the blog Nutta! which I happily discovered a few months ago.  Shino is Japanese and moved to America three years ago.  She has only been sewing for 12 months - so great!!  She sews for her two daughters and for herself.  Shino is new to sewing and even newer to blogging - she has only been blogging for eight months, but has already built up an impressive repertoire of beautiful handmakes  You can read more about Shino here, and you can see an overview of her 2013 creations here.  I can't wait to see more of this sweet gold heart Little Betty over at Nutta!


Venus is the super creative Mum behind the blog, Suburbia Soup.  She has guest posted here at sewpony for When we were young.  She sews the coolest stuff for her sweet sweet daughter Lala.  How cool is this Louisa dress?  I am pretty excited that she will be sharing two Little Betty tops today...how cute is the pic below??  I am jealous of that knit fabric!!  I can't wait to see more.  Go to Suburbia Soup and say hi to Venus and little Lala!!

The lovely Griet from Emma en Mona won the most recent series of Project Run and Play (which is currently running it's ninth season).  Her signature style look was phenomenal! She sent me a very sweet 'condolence' message after I was 'sent home'.  Since then we have visited each others blogs more often and I love her style.  When Griet signed up to test my pattern, I was pretty excited as everything she makes her beautiful twins is awesome.  Have a look at this sweet horse dress!  Griet blogs from Belgium.  She has a translate button on her blog which is handy (although the translations are often terrible and hilarious!).  I think Emma and Mona must be the best dressed girls in Belgium.  Have a look at her Little Betty below....head over to Emma en Mona to see more.

I can't wait to see all the versions of my pattern that these lovely ladies have made.  The first ten bloggers on the tour kindly helped me by testing my pattern and giving me some great feedback to improve it. Tasha from I seam stressed and Nienke from Pienkel are showing you their lovely tops today.

Nienke from Pienkel blogs from the Dutch island of Tershelling - such an interesting sounding place!  I love that blogging helps me connect with people from all over the world! Nienke sews for her gorgeous three children.  Nienke has a new (ish) series called "Weekly Pin Project", inspiring sewers to link up and share projects inspired by pins they have pinned on Pinterest...what a great idea!.  One of my favourite of Nienke's past sewing projects are these gorgeous ladybug bathers....so cute!!   Today she is sharing a Little Betty she made for her youngest daughter.  Head over to Pienkel to see more!

I am happy today to show you my two Bimaa sweaters made with the great pattern by Sarah of LouBeeClothing and EmmyLouBeeDoo blog.  Sarah has released three patterns, the Hosh pants and Doli tank have also been very popular among sewing bloggers.

Sarah actually released this Bimaa sweater pattern many months ago, but since she has recently added the hoodie variation, she then decided to arrange this blog tour.  So the Bimaa now has three views - hoodie and cowl (which I have sewn) and a shorter shawl collar.  

When Sarah emailed me asking if I would like to take part in her tour, I, like all the other bloggers, signed up right away.  A super cute pattern that I could make up for all my girls which they would be comfy in for every day wear and that I could sew up quickly.  I sewed both of these up in less than an hour each. I used my overlocker (serger) exclusively for these tops.  Awesome!! So quick and no skipped stitches (but less room for error!!)

The hoodie view is so cute!  A great fitting hood that Sarah worked very hard on perfecting!  The whole hood is lined.  I used a pink marle fine ribbed stretch fabric and a soft cream stretch lining for the hood lining.  Sarah suggests specifically to use fabric with stretch that goes both ways.  This is because the pattern is a snug fit and to make it easy to get on and off, your fabric needs to be stretchy.

The cowl view is also gorgeous.  I found this two way stretch fabric at my local op shop! What a score.  This Bimaa cost me about $1.50!!  Sarah made a gorgeous version where the cowl is sewn up in a different knit so that it looks like a scarf layered over the top.  Fun!  A couple of bloggers on this tour have also adapted the pattern into an A-line dress which look great too.

I have seen a few sewers comment that they would like this pattern in adult size.  My thoughts exactly! In fact, I upsized the Bimaa (well not technically, but took inspiration from...) to make my own red and white big Bimaa for Selfish Sewing Week a couple of weeks. back.  

The pattern comes in sizes 12 months - 6 years and the hoodie and cowl view are both also suitable for boys.  If your child is halfway between two sizes and is of average size for age, I would recommend choosing the larger size as it is a snug fit.  I love this pattern and hope to get another one made up for KCW next week...perhaps with ears!!

For the eighth day of Debbie's birthday dress blog tour, I have my good friend Ros sharing her creation with you.  As some of you may know, Ros from Sew Delicious and I are 'real life' friends.  We met at the beginning of this year after I suggested a playdate following us both commenting on each others blogs.  Ros is great and we (and our kids) are enjoying getting to know each other. Ros also guest posted for me here for When we were young. Ros is a baker, sewer, quilter, blogger, school teacher (like me - currently on leave) and a busy Mum.  Sew Delicious offers a little of all of these great things. 

I visited Ros and her family at her home a couple of weeks ago and had the pleasure of also meeting her gorgeous miniature daschund, Pharlap.  Pharlap features with Ros' daughter Anna today, as the book, Debbie's birthday party (which inspired my pattern) also features Debbie's gorgeous pup - a little Daschund just like Pharlap.

Heidi has altered my Debbie's birthday dress pattern into a super smart tunic...Gee, great minds think alike... Just I received the picture of Heidi's tunic version, I had just published my Tunic Length Adjustment chart on my blog.  Super easy to change my pattern into tunic length - perfect for layering for the Northern Hemisphere fall coming up!  All the recommended lengths are included in my chart - simply a matter of shortening the hemline on the pattern pieces before you cut your fabric.

If you follow Sanae's blog, you may have seen her creation for my blog tour already...she accidently posted it a day early - damn that confusing time difference!  Anyway, I was very excited to have Sanae as one of my pattern testers a couple of months back.  We were emailing back and forth about her post for my When we were young series and I was looking for someone to sew up the size 7 of my pattern - perfect!  Sanae posted two of the dresses she made using my test pattern for Kids' Clothes Week - you can see them here.
